Japanese Month name for August is Haduki.
Haduki means the month in which the leaves start falling from the trees.
As Japan used to use the lunar calendar, August was the middle of the autumn
season. Now however, it is midsummer.
Between 13th and 15th is "Obon" - the Buddhist ceremony when Japanese people go to the graveyard to clean the gravestone and to pray for their ancestors. Many people who live away from their parents go back to their parents' house. So it is one of the busiest times of the year. Nowadays, a lot of people travel around in Japan and many people leave Japan to travel abroad. Roads are blocked with a lot of cars, and trains and aeroplanes are full of the holidaymakers.
