Fire Festival at Stone Buddha in Usuki
The historical big Stone Buddha will be illumimated during the festival on 25 August. It is an amazing scene.

will be held on 2 December 2007. The deadline for lodging the application form is 11 September 2007.
You can buy the form at a book shop. If you wish to take the test in your country, you need to apply in that country.

Guided tour of excavation in Oita
There is an opportunity to have a guided tour of an exhibition in Usa Historical Museum on Sunday 11 November.   The exhibition subject is the excavation of an ancient site here in Oita, which should be very interesting.   Our guide will be Mr.Wakasugi, who works for the City Office on this project.   Admission will cost 800yen.   We will leave Oita 10am.   We can meet there around 11:30 if you want to meet at the place.   I can offer a lift to up to 3 passengers if required.   Please let me know as soon as possible, and certainly by 4 November, if you wish to attend in order that I can book tickets.

Japanese Year
There are 12 kinds of animal year in Japan.
This year is "Mouse year" which is the first of the 12 Animal years.
The animals are Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Serpent, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Cock, Dog and Wild Boar.
The people who are born in the year are called "Toshi otoko(male) or "Toshi onna(female).
People also believe that the person's character is similar to the animal.for example slow and stubborn if you were born in Ox year.

We have original month name in Japan.
Mutsuki-January, Kisalagi-February, and March is Yayoi. Yayoi means Trees and flowers start growing in the month. Each month has meaning.
You might meet a Japanese girl whose name is Yayoi. Her name is based on the month name.
